With the
first large wild fire of the
season finally in retreat, the skies
lit up last night for an awesome
display of color and texture...

M. Night Shyamalan's new movie
The Village
has just been totally and completely slashed,
kicked and stomped on by
both
Ebert and
The New York Times.
Too bad, I have to say. I was looking forward
to seeing it. I really, really liked
all his other movies. They're so deliciously
scary. Come to think - they're almost as
creepy as
the documentary the Sci-Fi Channel
made about him. Now that one *really* freaked
me out. All 3 hours of it. I could hardly sleep
after that.
Too bad again though that CNN exposed the
documentary as
an elaborate hoax (and incidentially, the
Sci-Fi website for the doc is
down).
Maybe M. Night should consider airing the
documentary in place of "The Village".
As skillfull as this guerilla doc is, I bet it would
help M. Night retain his viewership and loyal
following much better than "The Village"
ever will ...

CNN is stupid.
Take a look at this picture below:
What's wrong with this?
That's right. The alert reader will have
noticed that CNN put *Switzerland* (my home
country ::cough::) between Germany and POLAND.
Hello! Get your geography right, folks!
Maybe I should send them to
this page? Or they could have double-checked
with the
Map Divison of the CIA.
Oh, no, wait. Can't exactly trust that source
to produce accurate information neither ...
So for anybody who still is confused about
European geography - go
here.

The alert reader will have noticed that I've
been MIA from my blog for roughly two weeks.
For those who care: No, I haven't been lazily laying around on
the banks of my little river, soaking up
the sun - rather, I've been ... uhmmm.... working.
First - my client's brandnew site has been
finished and is now up in all its scintillating glory.
If you're into log homes, you simply HAVE TO
go check it out. And even if you're not
particularly into homes or logs, you should
go there anyway - 'cause I took
all the pictures... ;-)
Second - some of my prints will be on exhibit
at the
Downtown Bend Starbucks come August 1st for
an entire month. And I just got done printing, mounting,
matting and framing the entire show... whoa,
how much work was that! I won't tell you what the
theme of the show is - you'll just have to go
and see for yourself...
And so now that's done, and in consideration
of the 90+ degrees outside - I think I will
have to go for a
dip after all...

The other day, when I Googled the name of my
company, "Emerald Bay Photography", I noticed
that before
www.emeraldbayphoto.com even comes up,
two links to images posted in this blog rate
higher.
That got me thinking that I need to get more
and fresher content on that site - and what
better way to do that with than to add a blog?
So from here on out, I will be posting new
images and other photography-related content
exclusively to the
News and Updates section of the
www.emeraldbayphoto.com site.
I'm thinking that for a while I'll link
content from this blog to the other
(like for today's images from the Cascade
Cycling Classics), just
to get things started, but
Site Feed has been turned on in the Embay
blog, so if you really wanna stay up-to-date,
suck it down with RSS!
Next up: a dynamic image gallery for easier
surfing of images. If anybody has any suggestions,
please
email them to me.

Movie Review: Fahrenheit 9/11
Truth.
What *is* truth?
I'm sure George W. Bush has a different idea of truth and
honesty than most people. I knew that before I saw
Michael
Moore's
Fahrenheit 9/11.
But it's nice to know that in Moore, a vast amount of people
have finally found a voice.
Through him and his courage to take on the US Government in a
feature-length documentary, those millions of regular people,
who might have always suspected that something was fishy with
Bush, are finally getting their say. People like - me.
"Fahrenheit" is an uncensored, brutally clear, and astoundingly
logical account of what happens when an elitist president abuses
his power for sly personal financial gain, and with total disregard
for his country's people - those people he is supposed to protect
and nurture, but instead sacrifices in a war that only benefits him,
his family, and his friends.

The Web is a whacky place sometimes.
When I wrote my
frustrated rant a few weeks back about the world's most unpleasant PR person,
I never expected to hear anything back from it.
Seems though that the link to the article travelled in mysterious ways and
ended up in several, unrelated blogs - like
this one on marketing strategy,
and this one by a Swedish PR guy - both of them congratulating me on
writing the post.
Hmmmm. Somehow seems odd to me. But hey.
In other faintly related news - seems Jack Nicklaus' PR folks picked up on
Barney Lernten's excellent article on the opening of Jack's
Signature Golf Course at Pronghorn, and posted it on the
home page of his site.
A fortunate side effect of that was that my pic got posted there
too - with photo credit!
Alert reader and blogger extraordinaire
Jake Ortman however pointed out that when someone
googles "Emerald Bay Photography", all kinds of other stuff comes up before
my actual site.
Guess I need to get a plan together on how I can move the site up
in Google. And it sure would be nice to have a "Testimonial" page
too - kinda like the
Raves page I had for my post-
O'Reilly resume. So if any alert readers want to contribute - hey,
by all means....

So I'm back from my working vacation in
California. And happy about it too. There's
really nothing quite like the fresh mountain
air of Central Oregon, its clear blue skies
that are never tainted by smog or excessive
dust, and the clean dryness that is oh-so-refreshingly
different from the moldy, buggy, and perpertually
damp climate of ole' Sonoma County...
I did however have the palatable pleasure of
doing a
food shoot for my friends at
Canape
Catering while I was down there - which
got me heavily considering specializing my
photography on the food sector... most of all
because I got to actually EAT all the food
after the shoot ... yummm!
Tropical Strawberry Sorbet anybody?
Or how about some
Lemon Chicken Crepe Roulades, Feta Phyllo Pouches,
and fried Wontons stacked with Ahi, Spicy
Sprouts, Ginger, and Sesame Seeds?
And maybe some
Scallops & Rissoto Cake on a bed of Spinach, with a Coconut Curry Sauce
after that?
Yeah. I thought so.
